Influenza Outbreak and CASHNet’s Continuity of Services
Alameda, CA – April 30, 2009 — CASHNet has received inquiries from a number of institutions interested in better understanding the continuity of operations given the possibility of the current swine flu outbreak reaching pandemic proportions.

In light of the recent press articles on the influenza outbreak, we would like to share with you our approach to ensure on-going operations. CASHNet assesses both the mission critical application components and the resources necessary to continuously deliver these applications to our clients. Recovery of systems and services is based upon both the criticality of the service offering and identification of the essential employees and processes to continue with service delivery. The staff and processes are evaluated not only on a function basis, but also location.
CASHNet has carefully designed redundant technology capabilities, overlapping physical and staffing resources, flexible distributed communications, and structured command authority. For example, networks and communications occur over multiple medium using various suppliers and can be managed from anywhere in the US. By design, we cross educate our staff to handle multiple functions and work effort is physically distributed throughout locations in eight states. We want to assure our customers that CASHNet’s on-going risk assessment covers scenarios such as disruptions due to major influenza outbreaks or other natural disasters.
For those institutions that may be re-evaluating their Disaster Preparedness or Business Continuity Plans, there are several sources of excellent information. Educause and the Center for Disease Control have sample plans and preparedness advice for those needing additional information.
